We are a traditional working farm with stunning panoramic views across the High Weald - an area of outstanding natural beauty. At Bardown Farm we have four cottages each sleeping four people in converted eighteenth century buildings and in 2006 we were runners up in the South East Tourism Excellence Awards Self-Catering Holiday of the Year. One of our cottages, the Calf Shed, is specifically designed for anyone with mobility difficulties or needing to use a wheelchair.

This is the middle cottage in our Sussex barn. It differs from the end cottages in that it has a larger kitchen. This can easily accommodate another table and chairs enabling 14 people to dine comfortably should all four cottages be hired together. Catering services are available for special occasions. There is an additional spare bed for a 5th person.

The Calf Shed is an eighteenth century newly converted single storey stone cottage set apart from the other cottages with its own private garden and adjacent parking . Not only is the cottage 5 STAR GOLD , but with completely level access, it has been thoughtfully designed with the less mobile in mind. Both bedrooms have ensuites and single beds that can be converted to Superkings! Special features that have earned The Calf Shed the top Access Exceptional rating include a fully accessible kitchen with lowered hob and sink, only floor standing kitchen units and an accessible ensuite shower room with remote digital control, grab handles and raised toilet. Finally a pair of electric profiling beds ( also incorporating a carers bed) offer a limitless number of positions for the perfect nights sleep! We also have, free of charge, a selection of equipment available including a portable hoist, self propelled shower wheelchair and ordinary transit wheelchair.

Crow cottage and Ewe Cottage are both end cottages and each has a spare bed for an extra 5th person. Both have exposed oak beams and beautiful bespoke oak kitchens with solid granite work areas. Large galleried landings overlook the ground floor of the cottages with views down the valley.


Additional Information

The cottages have all been tastefully converted throughout with masses of original oak beams, splendid vaulted ceilings and oak floorboards. Soft rugs , quality window dressings, Denby dinnerware and John Lewis bed linen and towels add a touch of comfort and luxury. Upstairs in the Sussex barn there are large galleried landings which overlook the ground floor of the cottages and have superb views out of the full length windows. In each cottage there is a double room with en suite shower and loo, a twin room and a family bathroom. Downstairs is open plan with beautiful bespoke hand made oak kitchens ( fully equipped American fridge freezer with ice dispenser!, washing machine, tumble drier, dishwasher, microwave and oven )solid granite work areas and sumptuous leather sofas. There are lots of maps, books ,games, videos and DVD's in the sideboards to entertain you! Each cottage has its own south facing terrace complete with flower beds, garden furniture, bar-b-ques and glorious views.  The cottages can all be hired together with plenty of space in the middle cottage "The Roost" for everybody to dine and socialise together and catering is available. Outside we have a beautifully warm outdoor pool, games room, childrens play area and in ground trampoline.

If you can tear yourselves away, Bardown Farm makes a perfect base for exploring Kent and Sussex. Nearby are numerous National Trust properties including Bodiam Castle and Batemans and for keen gardeners, Sissinghurst, Pashley Manor and Great Dixter are a delight. Just 19 miles away the large sandy beaches at Camber are ideal for young children. Enjoy a day trip to London or alternatively take the ferry to France.
